BRAZIL CENTER-SOUTH ETHANOL OUTPUT POSTS 21.7% JUMP AS MILLS SHIFT CANE ALLOCATION

Brazil’s Center-South sugarcane crush reached 42.35 million tonnes in the first half of May in the 2026/27 season, up 1.4% year-on-year. Ethanol production climbed 21.7% to 2.14 billion liters as mills allocated more cane to biofuel production amid stronger returns, while additional corn-based ethanol volumes supported supply. Sugar output fell 13.2% to 2.12 million tonnes over the period. Since the season began in April, cane crushing has totaled about 105 million tonnes, up 34% from a year earlier. Cumulative ethanol production rose 46.7% to 5.56 billion liters, while sugar production increased 12.3% to 4.62 million tonnes, supported by an earlier harvest start, drier weather, and higher crop yields.
