BRAZIL/CANADA BILATERAL TRADE BREAK RECORDS, BOOSTED BY FERTILIZERS

The war between Ukraine and Russia made fertilizer imports jump from January to September 2022. This year represents a milestone in Brazil/Canada’s trade history: the two countries broke a record in trade, according to data from Quick Trade Facts. The advance in the bilateral trade relationship was encouraged by the new business agreement, and a strong jump in Brazil’s fertilizers purchase. From January to September, the trade flow – which represents the sum of imports and exports – totaled US$ (FOB) 8.223 billion (new historical record), surpassing the US$ (FOB) 7.497 billion reached in the 12 months of 2021. The lowest level in the last decade was seen in 2016 when it stood at US$ 4.2 billion. Since then, the results have become more expressive.
