WHEAT HARVEST STARTS WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS

The expectations for the wheat harvest in 2022 are high, with possible records and good-quality grains. This was the topic of the Sectorial Chamber of Wheat meeting held on Thursday (27) at the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development (Seapdr). “We start the wheat harvest with an exceptional expectation regarding the quality and quantity of the grain to be harvested”, said the secretary Domingos Velho Lopes. The crop projection presented by Emater/RS-Ascar in October points to a production of 4.7 million tons of wheat, and a cultivated area of 1.48 million hectares, with an expected average productivity of 3,210 kilograms per hectare. Hamilton Guterres Jardim, the director of Farsul’s Wheat and Winter Crops Commission, believes that the crop could reach 5 million tons in an area of 1.5 million hectares.
