BRAZIL 2026/27 SUGARCANE CROP SEEN AT 709.1 MT, ETHANOL RISES

Brazil’s 2026/27 sugarcane crop is forecast at 709.1 Mt, up 5.3% y/y and the second largest on record, according to Conab. Output gains stem from a 3.4% rise in yields to 77.8 t/ha and a 1.9% expansion in harvested area to 9.1 Mha. The Southeast leads with 459.1 Mt (+6.8%), followed by the Center-West at 154.5 Mt. Ethanol production is projected at 40.69 Bn liters (+8.5%), with cane-based output at 29.26 Bn liters and corn ethanol rising 12.3% to 11.43 Bn liters. Sugar output is seen slightly lower at 43.95 Mt (-0.5%). Market conditions remain mixed, with sugar prices under pressure from higher global supply, while ethanol demand stays firm, supported by blending mandates and fuel parity dynamics.
