BIODIESEL COULD INCREASE DEMAND FOR SOYBEANS IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL.

Brazil’s biodiesel expansion is set to increase soybean demand and alter trade flows. The mandated blend rose from 2% (2008) to 14% (2024) and could reach 17% in 2026, requiring ~14.6 bn liters/year versus 12 bn currently. Soy demand for biodiesel may climb from 43.2 Mt to 74 Mt by 2035 (+72%). Soybean oil accounts for ~70% of biodiesel feedstock. National output reached 9.84 mn m³ in 2025. The sector plans ~BRL 52.5 bn in new crushing and plant capacity. In Mato Grosso do Sul, demand may rise from 3.45 Mt (2025) to 5.92 Mt (2035); crushing capacity is seen up ~16%. Higher domestic processing should reduce raw grain exports while increasing shipments of oil and meal, with implications for logistics, storage, and inland transport.
