BAHIA TO HAVE ITS 1ST CORN ETHANOL PLANT

A new biorefinery will be established in Bahia that will use corn to produce ethanol. The initiative will be funded by Petrobahia in partnership with Impacto Bioenergia, J&H Sementes, ICM, and other regional producers. The entire project will cost BRL 908 million, with BRL 520 million allotted for the processing unit, BRL 120 million for corn storage, and BRL 268 million for the plant’s energy cogeneration. Dubbed the Lighthouse Project, the first phase will focus on converting corn into ethanol and producing animal feed. The facility will yield anhydrous and hydrous ethanol, corn oil, DDGS, and biogenic CO2. Currently, Bahia imports 80% of its ethanol requirements.
