CARIOCA ENGENHARIA, ICTSI INK DEAL TO EXPAND PORT OF RIO DE JANEIRO

Brazilian construction company Carioca Engenharia has been contracted by ICTSI Rio, an International Container Terminal Services subsidiary, to expand the dock of its port in Rio de Janeiro. The project will extend the dock by nearly 100 meters, increasing the port’s capacity to accommodate more and larger vessels. One of the critical factors that set Carioca apart is its use of new tools for foundation works on ports and bridges in areas with great depth. The unique characteristics of the soil, on land and underwater, necessitated the introduction of new techniques during the foundation phase to install tubular and precast piles of up to 60 meters in length. To achieve this, the company employs a floating pile driver called Ramlift, a Carioca Engenharia-owned device that will be used in the Rio de Janeiro port project.
