Northeast Brazilian ports are positioning for a larger share of agribusiness exports through investments in logistics capacity, multimodal integration and new trade corridors. During the Nordeste Export Forum in Maceió, port executives said rising agricultural output and potential gains from the Mercosur–European Union agreement will require continued upgrades in infrastructure and closer coordination among regional terminals. Industry representatives cited regulatory and administrative procedures as key constraints on competitiveness. The Port of Itaqui, operated by EMAP, was highlighted as a strategic gateway for the Northern Arc export corridor. According to port officials, recent investments and favorable natural conditions have strengthened its role as Brazil’s leading public port in the region, expanding capacity to handle growing export flows and supporting the diversification of logistics routes serving agricultural commodities.
