MINAS GERAIS POSTS 11.6% HIGHER SUGARCANE CROP AS ETHANOL OUTPUT JUMPS

Minas Gerais’ 2026/27 sugarcane crop is forecast at 83.3 million tonnes, up 11.6% year on year, according to SIAMIG Bioenergia. Mills are expected to shift more cane toward ethanol production, with total output seen at 3.34 million cubic meters, a 24.2% increase from the previous season. Hydrous ethanol production is projected to rise 39.8% to 2.23 million cubic meters amid stronger domestic fuel competitiveness. Sugar’s share in the production mix is expected to fall from roughly 55% to 51% as mills prioritize biofuel margins. Final mix decisions will depend on global sugar prices, domestic ethanol demand and Brazil’s biofuels regulatory framework.
