BRAZIL CANE CROP HITS 673MT AS ETHANOL OUTPUT REACHES RECORD

Brazil’s 2025/26 sugarcane crop is seen at 673.2 million tonnes (-0.5% y/y), the third-largest on record, according to Conab. Lower yields (-2.6%) were partly offset by a 2.1% increase in harvested area to 8.95 million hectares. Total ethanol output reached a record 37.5 billion liters (+0.8%), driven by corn-based production, which jumped 29.8% to 10.17 billion liters and now exceeds 27% of total supply. Sugar output rose marginally to 44.2 million tonnes (+0.1%), the second-highest level on record. The mix reflects capped upside in global sugar prices and firmer near-term support for ethanol markets.
