Public ports in Brazil’s Northeast region saw cargo handling surge 17.13% year-on-year in November 2025, signaling an economic upswing, according to data from Antaq. The growth was led by liquid bulk (+28.1%), reflecting higher fuel demand, and containerized cargo in public terminals (+33.1%). From January to November, total handling remained nearly flat (+0.06%). However, the cargo profile improved notably, with container volumes rising 10.5% to 19.5 million tons, reinforcing the region’s shift toward higher-value goods. Exports also grew 4.84%, driven by key hubs like the Port of Itaqui and Ponta da Madeira Terminal, underscoring the Northeast’s role as a strategic export corridor to Europe and North America.
