2024-25 CROP: SUGARCANE CRUSHING IN THE CENTER-SOUTH COULD REACH 650 MILLION TONS

Safras & Mercado consultancy predicts that sugarcane crushing in south-central Brazil will reach 650 million tons in 2024-25. This is 10 million tons less than the previous forecast due to weak rains in sugarcane fields. Despite this, sugar production is expected to increase to 42 million tons due to high prices on the international market. However, ethanol supply is expected to decrease due to high off-season supplies, causing mills to lower prices for hydrous ethanol. Consultant Maurício Muruci notes that the 2023-24 season is also expected to end with 650 million tons of sugarcane crushed.
