2022/23 SUGARCANE CROP UPDATE: FIRST FORTNIGHT OF OCTOBER

Sugarcane crushing in Brazil’s Center-South region reached 27.69 million tons in the first half of October, a 40.46% surge over the same period last year (19.71 million tons). According to the Sugarcane Industry Association (Unica), the raw material growth in this fortnight is due to some extent to the early closure of units in the past season, because of the weather, which has severely hindered plant development. Sugar production in the first 15 days of October totaled 1.83 million tons (+59.1%).
