WINTER CORN HARVEST IN BRAZIL’S CENTER-SOUTH REGION SHOULD CONTINUE AT A STRONG PACE, DATAGRO SAYS

The winter corn harvest in Brazil’s Center-South region is running at a strong pace, reaching 29.6% of the projected area up to the 1st of July, which represents a weekly increase of 10.3%, according to Datagro. The flow is above the 12% registered in 2021 and above the five-year average 18.8%. However, it is below the 31.9% from the 2019 record. “The current dry weather let the work proceed well, according to the evolution of the stages of the crops. With the dry weather forecast, we should have another important leap in the next survey”, says the grain coordinator at Datagro, Flávio Roberto de França Junior. According to the latest survey, the corn winter area in Brazil reached 17.96 million hectares this year, up 12% from the 16.07 million hectares in 2021. Production is estimated at 91.25 million tons, up 45% from the 62.72 million tons last year.
