THE PORT OF ITAPOÁ INVESTS BRL 750 MILLION IN CAPACITY EXPANSION

To keep up with the rising demand, the Port of Itapoá in Santa Catarina is investing BRL 750 million to increase its capacity by around 50%. The container terminal is a part of the southern cluster and managed to handle 1 million TEUs in 2023. The project will add additional equipment, including a warehouse for progressive customs clearance, and extend the yard space to 455,000 square meters. The work was financed by debentures and own resources, and there are plans to invest another BRL 2 billion over the next 10 years. Despite being a smaller port, it has grown rapidly and serves various industries, such as cellulose, refrigerated cargo, and automobiles.
