SUGARCANE PRODUCERS IN BRAZIL’S CENTER-SOUTH BET ON IRRIGATION

Still far from being the perfect solution, irrigation has been overcoming myths and gaining strength among sugarcane producers seeking to ensure much-desired stability in production. The projects, previously restricted to Brazil’s northeast region, are now migrating to the center-south region, where mills have already signaled investments in irrigation systems. According to Carlos Sanches, Netafim’s Mercosur marketing director, irrigation is now on the agenda of mills and suppliers. “The Northeast market is more mature for this irrigation plan, with 15 plants. Netafim intends to expand the sugarcane market in the center-south region”, added Sanches.
