SUGARCANE HARVEST BREAKS HISTORICAL RECORD IN MINAS GERAIS WITH CRUSHING CLOSE TO 80 MILLION TONS

Minas Gerais’ sugarcane harvest for 2023-2024 hit a record of 79.6 million tons, representing an 18% increase over the previous crop. Sugar output increased by 18.7% to 5.43 million tons, while ethanol production was 3.27 billion liters, with significant rises in both hydrous and anhydrous ethanol. The results place Minas Gerais as the second largest national producer, overtaking the state of Goiás. Domestic sugarcane output also benefitted from excellent weather conditions and sector investments, with an estimated 10% growth to 677.6 million tons.
