SUGAR OUTPUT TO GROW BY 15.1% IN THE FIRST HALF OF SEPTEMBER, S&P GLOBAL SAYS

S&P Global Commodity Insights estimates that sugar production in Brazil’s Center-South region will reach 2.94 million tons in the first half of September, up 15.1% from the same period in the previous season. Sugarcane crushing for the period ranged from 35.9 million tons to 43.5 million tons, with an average of 41 million tons. Prices are likely to rise 6.5% when compared to last year. “Sugar production in the fortnight is expected to be higher than last year due to increased crushing, ATR [total recoverable sugar], and sugar mix,” said sugar analyst Luciana Torrezan of Platts Analytics. The proportion of cane used to produce sugar should be 47.86%, well above the 44.86% of the previous year.
