SUGAR EXPORTS REMUNERATE 9.2% MORE THAN DOMESTIC SALES ON AVERAGE IN APRIL

April, the first official month of the 2023–24 crop, saw an increase in the price of crystal sugar bags on the Sao Paulo spot market. Rains throughout the month in Sao Paulo’s sugarcane-producing regions disrupted output and decreased the amount of white crystal sugar available in the area by making it harder to transport sugarcane, according to Cepea. In April, the CEPEA/ESALQ Crystal Sugar Indicator (in Sao Paulo) increased by 9.38%. On the New York Stock Exchange, demerara sugar prices increased significantly on the global market. In April, domestic sugar sales were surpassed by sugar exports by an average margin of 9.2%.
