SUGAR AND ALCOHOL INDUSTRY LEADS EXPORTS IN SÃO PAULO’S AGRICULTURE

From January to September 2023, the sugar and alcohol industry supplied 35.3% of São Paulo’s agribusiness exports, amounting to USD 7.23 billion. This represents a 24.7% increase in value and a 5.4% increase in foreign sales volume. The growth was driven by a 22.5% surge in the average price of sugar and an increase in ethanol shipments, with volume increasing by 16.1% and value by 5.7%. The top five countries importing from São Paulo were China (11.3%), Nigeria (7.0%), Morocco (6.1%), India (5.6%), and Saudi Arabia (5.5%). São Paulo’s agribusiness enjoyed a surplus of USD 16.62 billion during the period, a 7.5% rise compared to 2022.
