Soy prices rise despite lower export pace, says Cepea

The soybean harvest is advancing at the same time as exports are slower. Even so, the domestic values of grain and derivatives register small increases. Between February 14 and 21, the ESALQ / BM & FBovespa Indicators for Paranaguá (PR) and CEPEA / ESALQ Paraná rose 0.25% and 1.4%, respectively, closing at R $ 88.80 per 60 kg bag and R $ 81.64 per bag of 60 kg.The data are from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), from the Luiz de Queiroz Higher School of Agriculture (Esalq), University of São Paulo (USP). The climate in the South and Midwest of Brazil allows soybean harvesting and corn sowing to take place at an accelerated rate. However, in regions of Mato Grosso and Goiás, however, more intense rainfall worries the producers consulted, says Cepea. These farmers have their crops ready for harvest. According to the Center, in the export scenario, “the support comes from the high level of the dollar, which increases the export parity (in Reais), despite the pressure on FOB port prices”. In the international market, the first estimates for the 2020/21 harvest point to the recovery of the soybean area.
