SOUTH AFRICA SAYS FIVE COUNTRIES CONFIRM BRICKS MEMBERSHIP; ARGENTINA DECLINES

Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have confirmed their membership of the BRICS, according to South Africa’s foreign minister. They were invited at a summit held in Johannesburg last year, along with Argentina. The accession of these countries, as well as Argentina’s refusal, is seen as an attempt to reshape the global order. The minister highlighted that five of the six invited countries have confirmed participation, with Argentina choosing not to proceed with the invitation. This development represents a significant step in the expansion of the bloc, which currently consists of Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa.
