SAO PAULO’S AGRICULTURE SURPLUS REACHES 10 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2023

Sao Paulo’s agribusiness registered consecutive monthly surpluses this year, with the semester’s total being USD 10.04 billion, a 6.4% increase over the same period in 2022. Exports increased by 6.1% to USD 12.63 billion in the previous year, while imports increased by 5.3% to USD 2.59 billion. China accounted for 26% of total purchases, primarily of soy and meat; the European Union (juices, sugar, alcohol, and coffee); and the United States (juices and meat). Sao Paulo stood out in the following categories: juices (85.1%), various food items (73.6%), other plant-based products (65.2%), sugar and alcohol complex (61.8%), and live plants and floral products (58.7%).
