SAO PAULO: AGRIBUSINESS EXPORTS GROW AND SURPLUS INCREASES 33.7% IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2022

Agribusiness exports in São Paulo grew 26.1% in the first four months of 2022, compared to the same period last year, totaling US$ 7.30 billion, according to data from the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA-APTA). During the period, there was also a 5.2% increase in imports, with a surplus of US$ 5.67 billion, up 33.7%. The share of São Paulo agribusiness exports was 36.7%, whereas the share of sectoral imports was 6.9%. The sectoral exports of São Paulo represented 15% of overall Brazilian agribusiness performance. The five main groups in São Paulo were: sugar and ethanol complex (US$ 1.82 billion, of which sugar represented 85.1% and alcohol, 14.9%), soy complex (US$ 1.43 billion), meat sector (US$ 1.15 billion), forest products (US$ 825.93 million) and juices (US$ 527.12 million, of which 97.1% refer to orange juice).
