SÃO FRANCISCO PORT ACCOUNTS FOR 7% OF FERTILIZERS IMPORTED BY BRAZIL

The São Francisco do Sul Port plays a vital role in the importation of fertilizers for Brazil, receiving 7% of the total imported by the country in the first nine months of 2023, which amounts to 1.9 million tons. Russia is the leading supplier of these products, followed by Canada, China, the United States, and Morocco. The port’s efficiency is an attractive factor for vessels, with an average waiting time of just 10 days at sea, and the unloading process was expedited with the opening of a new access route in July. Although there has been a decline in fertilizer imports in Brazil throughout this year, expectations are for an increase due to the forecast of a new bumper crop next year. In 2023, fertilizer imports accounted for approximately $800 million (R$4 billion) at the São Francisco do Sul Port.
