ROCK BLASTING KICKSTARTS DREDGING INITIATIVE IN THE PORT OF RIO DE JANEIRO

On Friday (25), four areas of the Port of Rio de Janeiro saw the kickstart of the first detonation that marked the rock removal process that will increase the depth of these port sections. This effort is the product of a public-private collaboration that used rock blasting techniques using explosive expanders to dredge specific areas. The drilling that allowed the explosive emulsions to be placed commenced on August 15th. The central goal of the rock blasting operation is to enhance the navigation and berthing capacity of larger vessels in the Rio de Janeiro port, simultaneously providing greater safety during vessel maneuvers in the area. For the next year, there’s a planned supplementary dredging of the entire Gamboa quay, already approved in the budget with funds from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).
