RIO GRANDE DO SUL WHEAT HARVEST TO GROW 12.5% IN 2022, EMATER SAYS

The state of Rio Grande do Sul will have one of its largest wheat crops in history this year, with an increase of 12.5% in production to 3.99 million tons, projected this Tuesday by Emater, an agency linked to the Secretary of State Agriculture. Emater projected a planted area of 1.4 million hectares, up 15% over the last season, due to good prices for wheat, which have already signaled an important growth in the state. The initial yields are based on the trend of averages recorded over the last ten years. If the production of 4 million tons in the state is confirmed, it could help reduce the country’s need for imports, also generating export volumes. The state of Paraná, another major producer in Brazil, also expects a large harvest, close to 4 million tons.
