PORTS OF PARANA CLOSE THE FIRST HALF OF 2020 WITH 13% HIGH IN MOVEMENT

The ports of Paraná handled 28.1 million tons of cargo in the first half of 2020. The number confirms a series of records achieved by the Paranaguá and Antonina terminals in the first six months of the year and is 13% higher than that registered in the same 2019 period, when there were 25 million tons. The biggest growth was in exports: 18%. About 18.5 million tons of cargo left Brazil through the ports of Paraná. Last year, that volume was 15.7 million tons. Imports in the ports of Paraná grew 4% in the first half. About 9.6 million tons of cargo entered Brazil through the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina. In 2019, in the same period, the volume of cargo landed was 9.2 million tons. The greatest increases were registered in the movement of general cargo (12%) and fertilizers (8%). General cargo was imported more than 2 million tons this year, against 1.8 million in the first six months of last year. Fertilizers are the main solid bulk of imports. In the semester, the volume handled increased from 4.4 million tons. In 2019, in the same period, 4.1 million tons were landed.
