PORT OF SÃO FRANCISCO DO SUL FUELS STEEL INDUSTRY WITHIN SANTA CATARINA

The northern region of Santa Catarina stands as the primary destination for steel shipments arriving at the Port of São Francisco do Sul. From January to May, a substantial amount of 1.4 million tonnes of steel coils, bars, and plates were unloaded off vessels docked at the port, a notable growth of 9% compared to the previous year’s figure of 1.3 million tonnes. Prominent steel processing enterprises like ArcelorMittal Vega play a crucial role in receiving and transforming steel into parts utilized across various sectors, including the automotive industry, civil construction, and the manufacturing of refrigerators and stoves. Of all the steel received by Arcelor through the Port of São Francisco do Sul this year, which amounts to 885 thousand tonnes, factories in Santa Catarina received the largest share. Specifically, companies within the state received 350 thousand tonnes (40%).
