PORT OF SANTOS OFFERS DISCOUNTS TO “GREEN SHIPS” AND CABOTAGE

The Port of Santos has recently approved tariff discounts for ships that have low pollutant emissions, also known as “green ships”. The criteria for the discounts are based on scores obtained from the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), which ranges from 0 to 100. Discounts range from 15% (score 71-100) to 5% (score 0-30). To encourage cabotage navigation, the discount table considers the history of calls in national ports. Discounts range from 65% for more than 48 stopovers to 10% for 1-2 stopovers. Large discounts are given to cruise ships depending on the total number of passengers. The discounts are intended to boost tourism and economic growth in Brazil.
