PORT OF SANTOS CLOSES THE YEAR WITH RECORD OF CARGO HANDLING

The Port of Santos closed the year of 2018 with a record in cargo handling, reaching 131.5 million tons, an increase of 1.3% over the previous year, when the volume was 129.8 million tons. The result is an initial balance made by Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp), port authority and administrator of the Santos port complex.

Soyabeans stood out as the busiest cargo volume and hit an annual record: 20.3 million tons, a 23% increase on the highest established mark in 2017. Sugar and corn also stood out, but outperformed the record set last year. 14.2 million tons of sugar were handled, about 24.3% below the previous year (18.7 million tons). Of corn, 12.4 million tons were handled, volume about 12.6% lower than the one verified in 2017.
