PORT OF ITAQUI POSTS RECORD FERTILIZER VOLUMES IN THE QUARTER

The Port of Itaqui handled 7.2 million tonnes in Q1 2026, up 5% year on year, consolidating its position as the largest public port complex in Brazil’s Northern Arc. Fertilizer imports reached a record 934,000 tonnes, versus 839,000 tonnes a year earlier, marking an 11% increase over the previous first-quarter high. March fertilizer throughput totaled 281,000 tonnes, surpassing the prior record of 261,000 tonnes set in March 2021. Liquid bulk volumes also posted a new quarterly record at 2.346 million tonnes, compared with 2.143 million tonnes in Q1 2025, a 10% increase. Port management attributed the gains to investments in technology, berth management and operational planning, supporting higher productivity and reinforcing Maranhão’s role as a strategic logistics corridor for agribusiness and bulk cargo flows.
