The administration of the Port of Itajaí has signed an agreement with the University of Vale do Itajaí (Univali) and the Federal Port Authority to conduct technical studies aimed at removing the remains of the ship Pallas, which sank in 1893 in the access channel. The move marks a milestone in modernizing the port complex’s waterway infrastructure. Located between buoys 9 and 11, near maneuvering basin No. 2, the wreck of the Pallas currently prevents the deepening of that area and consequently limits the future capacity to receive larger vessels. The removal of the shipwreck remains will eventually allow the dredging of maneuvering basin No. 2, which will then have a diameter of 530 meters, increasing maneuvering safety, operational productivity, and the competitiveness of the Itajaí port complex.
