NORTHERN ARC PORTS LEAD BRAZILIAN CORN SHIPMENTS IN 2023 BUT MOVEMENT DECLINES AMID DROUGHT IN AMAZON

Brazilian corn exports have experienced a significant increase of 33.0% from 2023 to date, compared to the same period last year, according to DATAGRO. According to the corporation, between January and October, 44.9% of corn exports were carried via the Northern Arc ports, surpassing Santos Port’s 34.9%, and Paranaguá Port’s 9.0%. However, the participation of the Northern Arc ports in Brazilian corn exports is gradually decreasing after surpassing 50% in August. The Amazon region has been experiencing a severe period of drought since August, which is directly impacting the water levels of the Amazon River and its streams.
