NEW FERTILIZER PLANTS COULD BE BUILT IN MACAÉ-RJ

The city of Macaé, located in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, has expressed interest in hosting one of the plants foreseen in the National Fertilizer Plan. Brazil’s government introduced this Plan in March of last year aiming at lowering the percentage of imported raw materials, which is currently 90% of the total used in the production of national agriculture. Vinicius Farah, State Secretary for Economic Development, claims that Macaé has favorable conditions to consolidate the project and promote a new cycle of regional development due to a number of factors, including the supply of natural gas by the Cabinas Terminal, the potential production of the new plant connected to Tepor, and the reduction of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) from 18% to 2%.
