LATIN AMERICA TURNS OUT TO BE THE LARGEST GLOBAL EXPORTER OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

With Brazil’s participation, Latin America strengthens its position as the largest global exporter of agricultural products for the next ten years, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – OECD) in a report on agricultural prospects 2022-2031. By 2031, Latin America could account for 61% of global exports of soybeans, 59% of sugar, 45% of fish meat, 43% of corn, 40% of beef and vegetable oils fish, 32% chicken and 25% ethanol. Agricultural production in the region is expected to grow 14% in this period. Latin America’s trade surplus almost doubled in the last decade, and its share of global agricultural exports grew to 17%. Currently, Latin America’s trade surplus is expected to grow by 28%, increasing the international agricultural share to 18%. China, which more than doubled its agricultural purchases in the last 10 years, will continue to be the biggest importer.
