IBGE EXPECTS A RECORD GRAIN HARVEST OF 288.1 MILLION TONS IN 2023

The first forecast for the national production of grains, cereals, legumes, and oilseeds for 2023 was 288.1 million tons, up 9.6% (or another 25.3 million tons) from 2022. The Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA) said that the area to be harvested is 73.3 million hectares, being 6.8% bigger than the area harvested in 2021 (4.7 million hectares) and 0.1% (51,991 thousand hectares) bigger than forecast in September. Rice, corn, and soybeans, the three main products in this group, represent 91.6% of the estimated production and account for 87.1% of the area to be harvested. In 2021, the area for corn increased by 10.4%; the area for soybean increased by 4.8%; and the area for wheat, by 10.8%. The area for rice declined by 2.6%.
