GRAIN PRODUCTION IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL SHOULD INCREASE BY 28.4%, SAYS FARSUL

On Wednesday (9), Farsul System released a projection of 28.4% in grain production for the 2020/2021 harvest in Rio Grande do Sul, with a volume estimated at 33.9 million tons. The increase reflects a partial recovery after a bad previous harvest, when a severe drought hit the state, leaving a loss of 8 million tons. For next year, projections indicate that soybeans should increase production by 75.8%, to 19.8 million tons, and wheat should grow by 15.3% in volume. On the other hand, the production of corn is expected to reduce over 3 million tons, which represents a drop of 28% when compared to the previous harvest, and of 47% when compared to the 2018/2019 harvest. In 2020/2021 alone, the expansion of crops should total 3%, driven by soybeans, corn, rice and wheat crops. In the same period of the previous harvest, the planted area had already risen 3.5%.
