GRAIN PRODUCTION IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL INCREASES BY 11%

Rio Grande do Sul’s grain output is expected to increase by 11.2% by the end of the 2022-23 harvest. According to Conab, the state is expected to produce 29.5 million tons, up from 26.6 million tons in the previous cycle. Despite a nearly 10% increase in the farming area, from 10 million to 10.2 million hectares, production has grown by nearly 10%, from 2,637 kilos to 2,881 kilograms per hectare. Soy is a key crop, and farmers have expanded the area under cultivation from 6.3 million to 6.5 million hectares. Conab estimates a 38.6% increase in productivity, resulting in a jump from 9.1 million tons of soy in the previous harvest to 13 million in the current one. Corn output climbed from 2.9 million tons to 3.7 million.
