FINAL PHASE OF OUTER CHANNEL DREDGING BEGINS AT PORT OF SUAPE

The Port of Suape in Pernambuco has started the final phase of dredging the outer channel to a depth of up to 20 meters, making it possible for larger ships, such as Suezmax-class oil tankers, to dock. The Dutch company Van Oord is responsible for the operation, which is being carried out with an investment of BRL 140 million. The world’s largest dredger, Willem Von Rubroeck, is being used for the first time at a Brazilian port. Dredging is necessary to ensure the port’s navigability, safety, and operations, in conjunction with the expansion activities of the Abreu e Lima Refinery. The intervention, approved by the state environmental agency, is expected to be completed within five months, with environmental mitigation measures put in place. Suape Port is committed to sustainable development in collaboration with the local community.
