ETHANOL INDUSTRY CELEBRATES TAX CHANGES IN BRAZIL

The ethanol industry has celebrated the tax difference between gasoline and ethanol set by Brazil’s government. The tax on gasoline is BRL 0.47 per liter, whereas the tax on ethanol is BRL 0.02. Tuesday (28) marked the end of the fuel tax exemption for ethanol, gasoline, and compressed natural gas (CNG). The Organization of Cane Producers Associations in Brazil claimed that because ethanol is a clean fuel, the tax changes solve the environmental problem and reinstate the differential rates outlined in Article 225 of Brazil’s Federal Constitution.
