ETHANOL-GASOLINE PUMP BLEND COULD REDUCE GASOLINE CONSUMPTION, SAYS ARGUS

According to Argus, increasing the volume of ethanol blended with gasoline at gas stations to 30% may cut the country’s use of A (pure) gasoline by about 107.6 million liters per month. The sum is almost equal to the volume of two medium-sized tankers used in gasoline import operations. Last year, 31.42 billion liters of Type A gasoline were used, the highest amount since 2017. According to Amance Boutin, a fuel specialist at Argus, raising the ethanol blend would reduce Brazil’s external reliance on gasoline and avoid the pass-through of product price volatility in the international market.
