EPAGRI ESTIMATES 2022/23 CORN CROP IN SANTA CATARINA TO REACH 2.61 MILLION TONS

Despite some setbacks along the way, Haroldo Tavares Elias, Epagri/socioeconomic Cepa’s analyst, recalls that the year 2022 did not raise major concerns about the supply of corn to feed Santa Catarina’s herd of animals. The Brazilian state’s demand for grain corn to feed animals surpasses 7.5 million tons per year. However, “second crop production in Brazil and Paraguay met the demands for corn for the growing production of animal protein in Santa Catarina,” according to the analyst. Brazil was expected to export 42 million tons of corn by the end of 2022. Epagri/Cepa estimated in the December Agricultural Bulletin that Santa Catarina will produce 2.61 million tons of corn in the 2022/23 harvest.
