EL NIÑO MAY CONTINUE UNTIL APRIL 2024

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the El Niño phenomenon is expected to continue until April 2024. This could result in a rise in global temperatures and intensify extreme weather events like floods, heat waves and droughts. The WMO warns that 2023 is likely to be the hottest year on record, with 2024 predicted to be even hotter. The increase of greenhouse gases from human activities is causing these climate changes, says WMO Secretary-General, Petteri Taalas. The current strength of El Niño is moderate, but it could peak from November to January 2024 and persist through the next Northern Hemisphere winter/Southern Hemisphere summer.
