CHINA BECOMES BRAZIL’S BIGGEST CORN BUYER IN JANUARY

Brazil’s corn exports to China increased in January beating traditional markets, such as Spain, Iran, and Japan. After approval from Beijing for Brazilian shipments of the commodity at the end of November, Brazil sold 983.680 tons of corn to China in the period. Last year, China became the leading destination, buying 1.16 million tons of corn from Brazil in December. Despite an increase in domestic corn output, the Asian country is expected to import nearly 20 million tons of corn in 2023, according to Anec. Brazilian corn exports to China totaled US$ 271.4 million in January, or almost 15% of the total 1,773 tons.
