BRAZIL’S SOYBEAN PLANTING IS DELAYED WITH JUST 38.4% OF THE AREA

Soybean planting for the 2023-24 crop year in Brazil has been delayed, with just 38.41% of the total planned area planted so far. This is a considerable decline from the previous year (52.31%) and the five-year historical average (44.94%). The reason for the delay is the irregular rainfall, which has caused interruptions in planting in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Tocantins. The states of Minas Gerais, western Bahia, and Piauí have not yet started planting, which is unusual for this time of year. In some areas, replanting is necessary due to the severe weather conditions. This delay could also pose a risk to the second corn or cotton crop due to the shorter weather window in the Midwest.
