BRAZIL’S PARANÁ WHEAT CROP TO RISE AS CORN CROP IS EXPECTED TO FALL

Paraná’s wheat production is likely to reach a record 3.9 million tons this season, according to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) on Thursday (28/07). The states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul should account for almost 8 million tons of Brazil’s total output forecast, 9 million tons, also a historic record, according to Conab. “If confirmed, it will be a record”, said Godinho on Deral’s estimate. Deral expects a productivity advance of 26.6% compared to the previous cycle, when part of the wheat was affected by adverse weather conditions. If the forecast is confirmed, wheat output will have a growth of 22% in relation to the last season. The second corn crop in Paraná 2021/22 was estimated at 14.66 million tons. The current crop, which recorded an 8% increase in the planted area compared to the previous season, remains a historic record, said Deral’s analyst Edmar Gervásio. The department even slightly raised its forecast for the wheat crop in Paraná to 3.9 million tons against 3.86 million in the previous forecast.
