BRAZIL’S LARGEST PORT EMBRACES DRONE USE TO IMPROVE OPERATIONS SAFETY

The control and support services at the terminals of the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, previously carried out by helicopters, have been replaced by drones. Using drones reduces operation time, increases productivity, and boosts accuracy while increasing safety standards for workers and allowing the closer observation of equipment and products that undergo regular monitoring. To fly over the port region, however, it is necessary to have authorization from the Santos Port Authority, which is responsible for its administration. According to the institution, flight permits are granted upon airspace administration agencies and accident insurance approval. The entity adds that flying over fuel terminals is prohibited.
