BRAZIL’S GOVERNMENT PUBLISHES NEW ORDINANCE FOR COMPANIES TO QUALIFY FOR THE BR DO MAR PROGRAM

Seven months after the BR do Mar law was enacted, the government published on Wednesday (3) specific procedures and guidelines for Brazilian shipping companies, defining the rules for qualification. As a result, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Brazilian Navigation (EBN) and Conditioned Navigation (EBN-CON) companies can now access the government platform to apply for approval in the program. The Ordinance provides for a 100% digital service, free of charge, by accessing the platform and uploading documents, including for example, proof federal taxes compliance, and authorization to operate as EBN and EBN-CON granted by the Agency National Waterway Transport (Antaq), among others. Brazil’s Executive Branch still needs to regulate the law by decree.
