BRAZIL’S ETHANOL PLANTS MORE THAN DOUBLED IN A YEAR

Despite the 2021/22 season has had the lowest crushing of the decade, the good moment of prices and profitability made the number of sugar-energy companies more than double when compared to the survey carried out by Nova Cana last year. According to a one-year monitoring carried out by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the number of plants which expanded their ethanol production capacity rose from 23 to 50. With the ongoing expansions, the ANP expects an additional daily capacity of 12.43 million liters of hydrous ethanol and 2.55 million liters of anhydrous. Also considering the 23 plants under construction, the expectation is for an expansion of 20.66 million liters of hydrous and 8.48 million liters of anhydrous, totaling 29.14 million liters of ethanol. The current capacity could be increased by up to 7.7%. Three of the 50 plants use corn as raw material and four are in flex units (sugarcane and corn). The other 43 plants use sugarcane as raw material
